Awkward Love Scene For Kate Winslet
Many actors say that when it comes to filming love scenes things can get a bit awkward. The fact that they have to imitate intimacy with someone that they don’t even know in front of dozens of other people, on camera, and with a spotlight shining down on them. The whole time the director is shouting out to them what they need to be doing. What can make this worse? If your husband is the one directing you.
Kate Winslet has found herself in this same situation during production for her new film Revolutionary Road. This will be the first time that her and Leonardo DiCaprio have worked together since their hit drama Titanic. That was almost a decade ago. Over the years the two have remained close and become fast friends. The new movie is about a failing marriage in 1960’s suburbia.
“We knew that if we were going to do something again, it had to be something big and emotional,” Winslet told Entertainment Weekly. She read the acclaimed novel by Richard Yates a few years ago and pushed the film version into life on her own. Winslet knew that DiCaprio would be the best choice when filming the movie and thought that it would be great if she were able to work with her husband for the first time. She is married to the Academy Award winner - Sam Mendes.
Of course when you are working with your best friend and husband there are bound to be awkward moments. Especially during a steamy love scene.
“I just kept saying, ‘This is too [expletive] weird,’” recalls Winslet. “And Leo was like, ‘Oh, get over it.’ And I’m going, ‘Yeah, a little reminder: You’re my best friend. He’s my husband. This is a bit weird.’”
